How to Brew Café Altura French Roast in the Trendglas Brasil Coffee Maker

A quiet morning, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, and a clear glass carafe filling with a rich, dark brew: sometimes the simplest rituals are the most satisfying. Pair Café Altura Organic French Roast Ground Coffee with the Trendglas Brasil glass pour-over coffee maker for a hands-on way to enjoy this bold dark roast.

This method uses a paper filter inside the Brasil’s removable glass brewing cone. French roast describes the coffee’s roast level, not a requirement to use a French press.

What You’ll Need

  • Trendglas Brasil coffee maker and removable glass cone
  • A cone-shaped paper coffee filter that fits the cone, preferably unbleached
  • Café Altura Organic French Roast Ground Coffee
  • Fresh drinking water and a kettle, ideally with a narrow pouring spout
  • A kitchen scale and timer, if available

A Simple Starting Recipe

Start with 30 grams of ground coffee and 480 grams (about 480 mL) of brewing water, a 1:16 coffee-to-water ratio. Have additional hot water ready to rinse the filter. This is a suggested starting recipe, not a manufacturer-prescribed setting. Adjust it to your taste.

For this dark roast, try water around 195–200°F (90–93°C). Without a thermometer, let freshly boiled water rest briefly before pouring. Keep the water level safely below the cone’s rim and do not exceed the carafe’s capacity.

How to Brew with a Paper Filter

  1. Prepare the filter. Fold the paper filter’s seams as directed on its packaging and place it inside the glass cone. Seat the cone securely on the carafe. Rinse the paper with hot water to wet it and warm the glass, then carefully discard the rinse water.
  2. Add the coffee. Add 30 grams of Café Altura French Roast and gently level the grounds. This coffee is already ground, so there is no need to grind it again.
  3. Bloom the grounds. If using a scale, reset it to zero. Slowly pour about 60 grams of hot water over the coffee, wetting it evenly. Pause for about 30–45 seconds. Some coffees bubble more than others; a small bloom does not mean the brew has failed.
  4. Pour in stages. Add water in small, steady pours until you reach 480 grams total, including the bloom water. Pour over the coffee bed rather than directly down the filter’s edges. Let the water level fall between pours, leaving room below the rim to prevent overflow.
  5. Drain and serve. Allow the coffee to finish dripping. Roughly 3–5 minutes from the first pour is a useful starting range, but filter choice and the pre-ground coffee can change the timing. Carefully remove the hot cone, discard the filter and grounds, and gently swirl the carafe before serving.

Adjust Your Next Cup to Taste

Too strong? Add a little hot water to the finished coffee or use slightly less coffee next time. Too weak? Use a little more coffee with the same amount of water. If the brew tastes harsh or bitter, try slightly cooler water.

Because the coffee is pre-ground, focus on coffee amount, water temperature, filter fit, and pouring pace. If drainage is unusually slow, check that the paper filter fits properly and avoid overfilling the cone.

Why Use a Paper Filter?

Paper holds back fine coffee particles and some of the oils for a cleaner cup with less sediment. The Brasil’s clear glass lets you watch your coffee collect in the carafe as you pour.

Care After Brewing

Handle the cone and carafe carefully while hot. Let the glass cool before cleaning, and follow the brewer’s care instructions.
